Lucas Saur is a composer and multi-instrumentalist from NYC. He has written music for theater, musical theater, film, dance, and video games, has performed in off-Broadway pit bands, and played to venues such as Webster Hall, Brooklyn Steel, and Arthur Ashe Arena. His compositions and scores have been performed at The Lincoln Center, Theater Lab Midtown, Gibney 280, and Playwrights Horizons Downtown Theater School, among others.

Lucas is known for his work as bassist and co-producer for NYC based pop group Melt. Their songs have amassed over 10,000,000 streams online, and they have opened for groups such as Lawrence, Karl Denson, and Sammy Rae. Currently signed with United Talent Agency, their live shows have become increasingly talked about in New York. NPR called them “One groovy superorganism”.

As a composer, Lucas wrote the score to video game Smile for Me, which garnered accolades at the Indie Games Festival (IGF), IndieCade, and Boston Games Festival. He has also worked on scores for ‘Evergreen’, a short film by Audrey Lane, and ‘We are Home’, a dance piece in collaboration with the Wyckoff Collective.

Much of his time in New York is spent as an improvising cellist. His compositions often feature the use of electronics with cello, and combine jazz and chamber music styles to create music that has a flow, sound, and texture of its own. Having a background and familiarity with classical music and experience playing in string quartets helps Lucas bring this ensemble dynamic and cohesion to the improvised music realm. Unique instrumentations are also a recognizable aspect of his music - he recently debuted a piece for cello, voice, guitar, and vibraphone at The Lincoln Center.
